STUDY IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME

We provide both in-home and online instruction. Typically, we meet with students once a week for a two-hour session. We work with students in Los Angeles and Orange Counties in person and world-wide online!

We offer free phone consultations with company founder Melissa Wake. For families who want to know if one-on-one tutoring is the right approach for their student, Melissa is more than happy to speak with parents and students to answer questions, determine which test is more aligned with a student's natural skill set, and discuss next steps in the student's academic journey. 

Materials

We provide all study materials. We work from real exams published by the test makers. 

Personalized Instruction

KOR Prep's success comes from years of experience in one-on-one tutoring. Melissa has developed a variety of approaches to tackle each section of the ACT and SAT; she knows that not all strategies work for every student. During each session, we identify and analyze any errors students may make so they can learn from those mistakes. Positive reinforcement is just as important: we always point out when a student executes an approach that works so that he or she can internalize that skill and continue to build upon that strength. We seek continual improvement with each question, each drill, each session. 

Homework

Students must also learn to practice on their own. We assign focused homework assignments so students can reinforce skills. (Don't worry - it's manageable! We know grades during junior and senior years are important and we don't wish to compete with maintaining that GPA.)

Practice Exams

Periodically, KOR Prep offers practice SAT and ACT exams in a simulated testing environment. We strongly encourage students to participate; we always find little oddities and careless errors that pop up when students are under pressure. 

Melissa Wake has been teaching the SAT and ACT for 20 years.

As a high school student, Melissa scored in the 99th percentile on both the SAT and ACT. As an undergraduate at UCLA, she tutored privately for multiple Los Angeles-based test prep companies. And as a professional tutor, she aims to share the knowledge and skills that she has diligently acquired over the years. 

Melissa even signs up to take the ACT and SAT at least once a year to make sure her skills are sharp, keep up to date with any recent changes, and to know exactly what her students face on test day.
